The Nursing Study Program of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, proudly carried out community service activities in Tambasa Village, Tamalanrea Jaya Village, Tamalanrea District, Makassar City. This activity was held in the form of health education and free health check-ups on Saturday, (02/11).
This event was attended by 30 local residents who enthusiastically participated in the series of activities, as well as 17 lecturers from the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University. Also present were the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and the Head of the Nursing Study Program, Hasanuddin University. In addition, this activity also received support from the Makassar City Health Office, represented by 3 people, and the Tamalanrea Jaya Health Center, which sent 4 health workers. Not to be missed, 14 Nursing students also participated in this activity as part of the application of knowledge and as volunteers.
The activity began with counseling explaining the importance of maintaining health, a clean and healthy lifestyle, education about urinary incontinence in the elderly, relaxation techniques to reduce anxiety, and education about disease prevention. The material was delivered by lecturers who are competent in the field of nursing.
Furthermore, a health check was carried out which included measuring blood pressure, checking blood sugar, uric acid, cholesterol, and health consultations.
The Head of the Nursing Study Program, Yuliana Syam, stated that the purpose of this activity was to increase public awareness of the importance of health and provide better access to health services to people who may not have easy access to health facilities.
The head of the organizing committee, Arnis Puspitha R, also said that this activity is a form of social concern for the wider community. Community service activities have an important role in bridging science and community needs. Through educational programs and health services, we not only increase awareness of the importance of health, but also provide direct access to the community to obtain the information and services needed. Thus, this activity contributes to creating a healthier and more informed society.
One of the participants, Mrs. Mariana, expressed her gratitude for this activity. “I am very grateful, activities like this are very beneficial for us,” she said enthusiastically.
