The Physiotherapy Study Program of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, successfully carried out community service activities on Wednesday (04/12) with the theme “Together with Physiotherapy, Preventing the Increased Prevalence of Falls in the Elderly” at the Moncongloe Maros Health Center. This activity aims to increase public awareness and understanding, especially the elderly, regarding the risk of falls and preventive measures through a physiotherapy approach.
It began with remarks from the Head of the Physiotherapy Study Program, Andi Besse Ahsaniyah, S.Ft, Physio, who emphasized the importance of preventing the risk of falls in the elderly to maintain their quality of life. Furthermore, the event was officially opened by the Vice Dean 3 of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Takdir Tahir, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., who emphasized the faculty’s support for initiatives that have a direct impact on public health.
This activity includes several important sessions, such as education on preventing the risk of falls in the elderly with a physiotherapy approach, blood pressure checks to identify cardiovascular health risks, and measuring the risk of falls using the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) method. Through this method, participants can find out their risk level of falling and receive appropriate intervention advice from the physiotherapy lecturer team, which in this activity was led by Physio Melda.

The Head and staff of the Moncongloe Maros Health Center welcomed this activity and expressed their appreciation for the contribution of the Physiotherapy Study Program, Faculty of Nursing, Unhas. “This activity is very useful, especially for the elderly who in reality often face various risks of falling. We hope that cooperation with physiotherapy can continue to create a healthier and more active society. Moreover, so far physiotherapy services at the Maros health center are still very limited and are more available at the hospital level,” said dr. Sry Wahyuni ​​Warastuti, S.Ked as the Head of the Health Center.
The elderly who attended this activity not only received education, health checks and risk of falling, but also motivation to maintain their health through an active lifestyle. This program is expected to be the first step to reduce the prevalence of falls in the elderly in the Maros area, as well as being an inspiration for the implementation of similar activities in the future.
