The delegation from the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University successfully took part in the 2024 Sakura Science Plan Exchange Program which was held at Yokohama City University, Japan on (14-20\/01). This program is a collaboration between the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University and the Nursing Department, Yokohama City University and for the first time this year it was held offline. This year’s Sakura Science Plan Exchange Program has the theme of Palliative Care, which is a treatment that aims to improve the quality of life of patients who have serious or chronic illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This program was opened on January 15 2024 at the Nursing department building, Yokohama City University by the dean and other YCU parties. YCU warmly welcomed the delegates and hoped that this program would run smoothly. After that, it continued with providing material on “Medical Care and Nursing in Japan” and continued with material on palliative care in Japan and Indonesia. The provision of this material was attended by YCU nursing students and FKep Unhas Delegation Students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from taking part in providing material in class, the Fkep Unhas delegation also toured three different hospitals including Yokohama City University Hospital, Shonandai Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Yokohama City University Medical Center palliative care at the Comprehensive Perinatal Maternity and Child Health Center with the aim of provide students with a direct overview of how palliative care is implemented in several hospitals in Japan. Not only that, students also took a tour to Yokohama Children’s Hospice and Maggie’s House, where this place is a place of care that feels like home that provides comfort for people who feel they are worthless and have no enthusiasm for life because of the chronic illness they suffer from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the highlights of this program was a discussion and presentation between students at Hasanuddin University and Yokohama City University about palliative care in their respective countries so that students could become more familiar with the health system in their countries. And after that it closed with a farewall party and four ethnic dance performances from Unhas students as well as closing from the dean of the Yokohama City University nursing department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every time Sakura Science is held, I am very impressed by the active participation of Hasanuddin University students. “My hope for the Sakura exchange program next year is that there will be more time between Unhas and YCU students so that we can exchange more cultures and ideas and that will be fun.” Ryota Ochiai said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Sakura Science Exchange program, it is hoped that it can provide students with the experience of studying abroad and gain new knowledge, especially about palliative care in Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
