Community Service Introduction and Prevention of Sexual Grooming: Efforts to Protect Teenagers from Covert Violence at SMA Negeri 1 Barru

The Community Service Team of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, conducted Community Service on June 19 at SMA Negeri 1 Barru with the theme “Introduction and Prevention of Grooming: Efforts to Protect Teenagers from Covert Violence at SMA Negeri 1 Barru” consisting of team leader Indra Gaffar, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep and team members namely Prof. Dr. Rini Rachmawaty, S.Kep., Ns., MN., Ph.D., Dr. Tuti Seniwati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Dr. Hastuti, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes, and 5 students. This activity was attended by 107 students consisting of members of PMR, OSIS, and class representatives. Students were also accompanied by guidance and counseling teachers, OSIS supervisors and teacher representatives. This activity is a Community Partnership Program by the Unhas Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) which is held annually and implemented by a team of Unhas lecturers and students.
The opening of the community service activity was by the Principal of SMA Negeri 1 Barru, Mr. Rosman, S.Pd., MM. Then, it was continued with a speech by the head of the community service team who said that “this activity is a form of implementation of the Tri Dharma of higher education, namely community service, this activity aims to equip teenagers, especially students of SMA Negeri 1 Barru with the skills to recognize, avoid, and report manipulative actions from an early age”. In addition, he also said that the program would help schools strengthen a safe environment and increase awareness of all school residents about forms of non-physical violence that are often hidden.
The activity was continued by giving a pre-test to students which aimed to determine students’ understanding of sexual grooming. After the pre-test was completed, the presentation of sexual grooming material was by Dr. Tuti Seniwati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes. and Raudyatuh Zahra Latief, S.Psi., M.A. (social psychology and sexual violence practitioners) and continued with material reinforcement by Indra Gaffar, S.Kep.,Ns.,M.Kep. Then continued with a question and answer session that was enthusiastically welcomed by the students, continued by measuring students’ understanding of the material that had been explained, the community service team gave a post-test to the students. After the entire series of activities were completed.
The Principal of SMA Negeri 1 Barru. Mr. Rosman, S.Pd.,MM emphasized that this activity is very much needed by high school students to ensure that adolescents are involved not only in terms of knowledge but also in a holistic understanding of grooming.
We hope that through education and media in the form of leaflets, posters, and sexual grooming banners that have been submitted to the school, it can help school residents to strengthen a safe environment against forms of non-physical violence that are often hidden.
