Three Okayama University Students Join Summer Program at the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University

The Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) welcomed three students from Okayama University, Japan, to participate in a Summer Program held from September 17 to October 19, 2026. This initiative is part of an international collaboration between Okayama University and the Faculty of Nursing at Unhas, aimed at broadening students’ learning experiences through exposure to hospital and community nursing practices, academic learning, and cultural exchange.

The series of activities began with a one-week visit to several healthcare facilities and academic environments. The students visited Hasanuddin University Hospital, Antang Public Health Center (Puskesmas) in Makassar, and the Makassar Wound Care Clinic. The itinerary also included campus and faculty tours to introduce the Hasanuddin University environment and the educational facilities at the Faculty of Nursing.

Following this, the students participated in a two-week clinical practice observation at Hasanuddin University Hospital and a one-week learning program at Antang Public Health Center. Through these activities, the students gained insights into nursing service delivery across various healthcare settings, both in clinical and community environments.

In addition to field observations, the Okayama University students gained hands-on learning experience in nursing laboratory facilities and joined class lectures (sit-ins) alongside Unhas nursing students. This opportunity offered them an overview of the nursing education process, clinical skills development, and nursing education approaches in Indonesia.

In his welcoming remarks, the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Nursing, Unhas, Syahrul,S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D., expressed his hope that this program would provide a meaningful learning experience for students from both universities.

He emphasized that the benefits of the program extend beyond the visiting Okayama University students to include Unhas nursing students through interaction, knowledge exchange, and shared learning experiences. He also hoped that this collaboration would continue to grow, allowing more Okayama University students the opportunity to visit the Faculty of Nursing at Unhas in the future.

This Summer Program served as a platform for students to understand differences in healthcare systems and nursing education, while simultaneously building cross-cultural understanding. Interactions throughout the activities also opened up opportunities for students from both universities to share perspectives, experiences, and nursing practices within the context of their respective countries.

Through this initiative, the Faculty of Nursing at Unhas and Okayama University are expected to further strengthen their international partnership and develop collaborative opportunities in education, student exchanges, and the global enhancement of nursing education quality.
