Pangkep, September 20, 2026 \u2014 Undergraduate Nursing students from the Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University, through the “Squad of Disaster and Emergency Assistance Ners” (Siaga Ners) special body of the Nursing Student Association (Himika), conducted the “HIPERTENSI” (Free Blood Pressure Screening Day) and intervention activity for residents of the Desa Siaga<\/em> (Alert Village) program in Panggalungan, Hamlet 2 (Tabo-tabo Selatan), Tabo-tabo Village, Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, held on Saturday and Sunday, September 19\u201320, 2026, was part of the work program of the Siaga Ners Social Affairs Division and served as a form of community service supporting the sustainability of the Desa Siaga<\/em> program. A total of 23 Siaga Ners members\u2014all undergraduate nursing students from Hasanuddin University\u2014participated in the activity. The event was attended by 27 residents of Hamlet 2 (Tabo-tabo Selatan), with a primary focus on adults and the elderly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity was also attended by Akbar Harisa, S.Kep., Ns., PMNC., MN., a lecturer from the Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University, and Erwin Syahrul Hidayat, S.Kom., an educational staff member. In his remarks, Akbar Harisa emphasized the importance of early health screening, particularly as a measure for the prevention and control of hypertension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The activity was supported by the medical team from the Bungoro Community Health Center (Puskesmas), who assisted with screenings and health education for the community. The Head of the Bungoro Community Health Center expressed hope that similar activities would continue to be held in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the HIPERTENSI and Desa Siaga<\/em> initiative, residents received various free health screening services, including blood pressure checks, weight and height measurements, and screenings for blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to health screenings, the students provided education on hypertension, covering topics such as its definition, risk factors, the importance of routine blood pressure checks, and strategies for prevention and control through the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. As part of the education on complementary therapies, students demonstrated how to prepare garlic infusions and cucumber juice. During the session, community members were informed that herbal remedies serve as a complementary therapy rather than a substitute for antihypertensive medications prescribed by healthcare professionals. Residents were also advised to consult healthcare professionals before incorporating complementary therapies into their regular health routines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-Being by enhancing public understanding of health maintenance, as well as SDG 4: Quality Education through the delivery of health education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hypertension awareness and “Alert Village” (Desa Siaga<\/em>) program activities proceeded smoothly, garnering an enthusiastic response from the residents of Hamlet 2, South Tabo-tabo. Through this initiative, it is hoped that the community will gain a greater appreciation for the importance of regular health check-ups and the early detection of risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Furthermore, the program aims to improve understanding of hypertension\u2014a condition that often presents no symptoms yet can lead to serious complications if not properly managed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This activity represents a contribution by students from the Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University toward providing health education and services to the community, while simultaneously supporting the sustainability of the “Alert Village” program in Pangkep Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
