Lecturers and Students of the Faculty of Nursing Hold a Community Service Program in Untia Village, Makassar City

Lecturers and Students of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University held a Community Service Program for the Fisherman Community in Untia Village, Makassar City. The program, entitled Training on Barotrauma Prevention Behavior, Decompression in Fishing Communities in Untia Fisherman Village, Makassar City, which was attended by 50 residents who work as fishermen and was greeted enthusiastically by local residents, Saturday (16/07/2022).

This Community Service Program is one of the programs from LPPM related to the Hasanuddin University Community Partnership Program (PPMU-PK-M). This activity was attended by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships of the Faculty of Nursing, Team Leaders and Members of the Community Service Team, Untia Village Head or represented by the Secretary of the Village Head, Head of Bulurokeng Health Center, Head of Local RT/RW, community leaders, and residents of the Village. Untia. Setiawati Halyb as the Secretary of the Lurah delivered a good welcome and at the same time opened this activity in the Untia Village Library Area.

“The Puskesmas is very grateful for the implementation of this community service program related to one of the preventive efforts towards resources. On average, the Untia people work as traditional fishermen. Moreover, the distance of the Puskesmas which is far from the residences of local residents so that the existence of educational counseling related to barotrauma, decompression and Basic Life Support (BHD) is very helpful for us in empowering and empowering the local community regarding first aid related to emergency cases that may be experienced when I’m diving,” said Syarah Wahyuni ​​S.KM., M.Kes who represented the Head of the Bulurokeng Health Center.

The statement from the Puskesmas was in line with what has been conveyed by the Head of the Community Service Program Team, Akbar Harisa, S.Kep., Ns., PMNC., MN that, “This Community Service Program is carried out to bring the community closer and teach how important it is to know about barotrauma disease. and decompression which is the most common disease experienced by divers and basic Life Support (BHD) training is carried out so that the community can immediately provide first aid if a case occurs that requires rapid treatment, especially during diving activities”.

In this Community Service Program, he presented the topic of counseling to fishermen regarding the Prevention and Management of Barotrauma, Decompression, which was brought by Dr. Takdir Tahir, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes as Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships at the Faculty of Nursing, followed by Basic Life Support Training (BHD) which was delivered by Syahrul Ningrat, S.Kep., Ns. M.Kep., Sp.Kep.MB, direct simulation by local residents facilitated by team leader Akbar Harisa, S.Kep., Ns., PMNC., MN, as well as providing and assisting in filling out the Knowledge Questionnaire facilitated by the student team community service, namely Muhammad Hidayat, Wafiq Aulia Ramadhani, and Lilian Arifka Juli Abdullah.

Setiawati Halyb hopes that the Untia community can make the best use of this program. “This program is very important to be used by the Untia community, especially residents who work as fishermen. Hopefully in the future there will be more programs like this,” said Setiawati Halyb.
