FACULTY OF NURSING COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAM CONDUCTING A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM AT BATARA SANG REGIONAL GENERAL HOSPITAL (RSUD) PANGKEP DISTRICT

This Community Service Program (Pengabmas) is one of the community service activities that receives funding from the 2023 Hasanuddin University PkM-Partnership Program grant and is part of a series of Hasanuddin University’s 67th Anniversary. The Community Service Team is chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Ariyanti Saleh, S.Kp., M.Si, who was also the speaker at this activity. The Community Service Team consists of; Nurlaila Fitriani, S.Kep.,Ns.,M.Kep.,Sp.Kep.J, Framita Rahman, S.Kep.,Ns.,MSc from the Faculty of Nursing and collaborated with Nur Syamsu Ismali, S.Psi.,M .Si from the Faculty of Medicine as well as several students. The theme of this Community Service activity is “Therapeutic Communication Training in an Effort to Increase Caring Capacity of Nurses in Nursing Services at Batara Siang Hospital, Pangkep Regency”. This activity took place in the Batara Siang Hospital hall for 2 days, Monday-Tuesday, June 19-20 2023.

This activity was attended and officially opened by the Director of Batara Siang Hospital, Dr.Hj. Sri Nurul Hidayah, Sp.PK.,M.Kes. This community service was attended by 33 nurses and midwives who served both in the treatment room, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the Emergency Room (IGD), and the Batara Siang Hospital Polyclinic.

The head of the community service team, Prof. Dr. Ariyanti Saleh, S.Kp., M.Sc, explained the importance of the therapeutic relationship between nurses and patients and the ability of nurses to self-analyze, said that “therapeutic communication is an important weapon for nurses in providing and improving the quality of nursing and midwifery care”. Prof. Yanti also stressed the importance for nurses and midwives to be aware of their own abilities and analyze themselves as part of improving “caring”, skills and abilities in providing services to patients.

Another member of the community service team, Nurse Nurlaila, explained about therapeutic communication techniques and therapeutic communication deadlocks. “Therapeutic communication deadlock can cause feelings of discomfort and tension for both nurses and patients,” said Ns. Nurlaila. In roleplay activities, nurses and midwives were very enthusiastic about carrying them out, including during post roleplay discussion sessions related to scenarios and practicing therapeutic communication. Apart from that, this activity was also complemented by directly practicing the therapeutic abilities of the trainees on patients/families in the treatment room of Batara Siang Hospital, Pangkep Regency.

Nurses and midwives felt very enthusiastic during this activity. Mrs. Nisrawati as the best participant in this community service activity said “I feel very grateful because this activity has been carried out, there are lots of new knowledge and insights gained, which God willing will be very helpful in improving nursing care services, especially in the ICU room”.
