Faculty of Nursing Unhas Holds Pioneering Pre-Departure Training for Outbound Students to Japan

Makassar, December 12, 2025 — The Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, held a Pre-Departure Training (PDT) today to prepare students and lecturers for upcoming international outbound programs to Japan. This pioneering session—the first of its kind at UNHAS—took place in the Senate Room of the Faculty of Nursing and aimed to equip participants with essential cultural, academic, and practical knowledge before their departure.

The training specifically prepared for two students departing for Okayama University from 13–19 December 2025, and ten students scheduled for Yokohama City University from 13–19 January 2026. The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and attended by faculty leadership, including the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Syahrul, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D, along with program coordinators, and all participating outbound students and lecturers.

In her opening remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Elly Lilianty Sjattar, S.Kp., M.Kes congratulated the selected participants, emphasizing that “not all students have this opportunity—only high-achievers are chosen, to motivate others to excel.” She urged them to “make the most of this chance to learn well, to contribute to the future of nursing, and to share knowledge upon return about the current state of nursing in Japan.” She also highlighted the cultural dimension, noting that “the Japanese people deeply appreciate Indonesian culture. Take this moment to introduce and share the rich culture of South Sulawesi.”

Echoing and expanding on this, Vice Dean Dr. Syahrul stated that “this training is designed to enhance the academic atmosphere of our faculty and to ensure our students proudly represent UNHAS abroad. It aims to minimize the adjustment gap they will face upon arrival in Japan.” He also underscored the milestone nature of the event, noting that “this is the first Pre-Departure Training organized by UNHAS, formalizing our commitment to comprehensive student preparation for global mobility.”

Following the opening session, the training proceeded with several key topics, including the role of students and lecturers as ambassadors of UNHAS, cross-cultural understanding, strategies to overcome culture shock, internationalization efforts of the faculty, and advancements in nursing practice. Presentations were delivered by experienced academics and internationalization practitioners.

The training concluded with a certificate acknowledgment and motivational closing by the moderator, reinforcing a sense of readiness and collective purpose among the departing cohort. The atmosphere was focused and supportive, reflecting the faculty’s commitment to successful international academic integration.

This inaugural Pre-Departure Training marks a significant step in strengthening the ongoing partnership between the Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University and its Japanese counterparts, ensuring that participants are well-prepared to embark on their academic journeys and contribute to future collaborative initiatives in nursing education and practice.
