Syafar is a prominent academic with strong clinical nursing experiences especially in acute and emergency nursing fields. Before taking the carrier as a nursing academic, he had worked in various clinical settings such as community health centers and hospitals. His nursing educational background was started from Nursing Vocational School, and continued to diploma, bachelor, and master of advance practice in nursing. He is currently pursuing his PhD in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Flinders University Australia with the support from Australia Award Scholarship.

Syafar is a dedicated lecturer and has passion in teaching, not only for students, but also for nurses, other healthcare providers, and community. He frequently delivers Preceptorship course for clinical educators to be able to supervise clinical internship students effectively. He is a national trainer/facilitator for emergency courses for example: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Lay Rescuer, Basic Trauma and Cardiac Life Support (BTCLS), Emergency Nursing (EN), and Disaster Nursing. He also has participated as a core team of national project: ‘Curriculum development for emergency, disaster & critical care nursing for enhancement of nursing competency through in-service training’, in collaboration with Indonesia Ministry of Health, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) & Indonesia Emergency and Disaster Nurses Association (IEDNA).

Syafar’s research program focuses on acute and critical care management, disaster preparedness and management, and family presence during resuscitation. He has published papers in peer reviewed journals and 3 book chapters.
