Students of the Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University held a Village Development Program for the Fisherman Community in Untia Village, Makassar City. The program, entitled Counseling and Health Check-ups for Fishermen Communities, was enthusiastically welcomed by local residents, Saturday (16/07).

The Student Village Development Program of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University was attended by the Secretary of the Untia Village Head, the Bulurokeng Health Center, the Chair of the Untia Village LPM, the Head of the Local RT/RW, the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships of the Faculty of Nursing, Lecturers of the Faculty of Nursing, religious leaders, community leaders, and the Untia Village community. The local government welcomed this program.

“This program can really help the Puskesmas in educating and conducting health checks to the community. This Village Development Program is one of the preventive efforts by empowering and empowering the community on how to prevent and overcome health problems that may be experienced even though the Puskesmas is quite far from where the local community lives,” said Syarah Wahyuni ​​S.KM., M.Kes who represented The head of the Bulurokeng Health Center.

This activity was divided into 3 groups with different counseling topics. The first group was attended by father fishermen, who were given health education about caisson disease, prevention and management of barotrauma and decompression, as well as simulation or hands-on practice on how to perform basic life support in emergency cases while diving. The second group was attended by women from the Untia village. Mothers were given health checks and counselling about hypertension, cholesterol, gout, and diabetes mellitus. The third group was filled by Untia village youth who were given physiotherapy counselling about health problems of low back pain and how to sit correctly in order to prevent these problems from occurring.

Setiawati Halyb, who is the secretary of the village head, hopes that the Untia community can make the best use of this program. “This program is excellent because there are counselling and health checks, so it is important for the Untia community to follow. Hopefully, in the future there will be more programs like this,” said Setiawati Halyb.
