The Community Service Team at the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University (Unhas), led by Dr Kadek Ayu Erika, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes; with members Nur Fadilah, S.Kep, Ns., MN; and several Nursing students collaborating with Dr Hj. Sri Ramadany, M. Kes. from the Faculty of Medicine carried out Education on “The Importance of Healthy Lifestyle in Adolescents in the New Normal Adaptation Era at SMK Negeri 7 Makassar”. This activity took place in the hall of SMK Negeri 7 Makassar on Wednesday, 15 March 2023.

This activity was attended and officially opened by Mr Herwelis, S.Pd., M.Pd. as Principal of SMK Negeri 7 Makassar. The number of participants who participated in this activity was approximately 210 students of SMK Negeri 7 Makassar.

The head of the community service team, Dr Kadek Ayu explained several healthy lifestyles that can be applied to teenagers, saying that “A healthy lifestyle that teenagers can apply is by doing physical activity for at least 60 minutes/day, eating a balanced nutritional diet, getting enough sleep, controlling stress, not smoking, don’t consume drugs & alcohol, and place restrictions on looking at electronic screens, “said Dr Kadek Ayu Erika.

According to Dr Kadek, it is also highly recommended that teenagers be able to process food properly before consuming it. “Good food processing includes eating foods that can be boiled, and steamed and avoiding foods that contain high sugar, foods that are given preservatives, and high salt levels,” he said.

Another member of the community service team, Nurse Nur Fadilah, also practices deep breathing techniques to manage stress well in adolescents. “Deep breathing techniques can be done in a quiet place by relaxing all the muscles of the body. Inhale through the nose and then slowly exhale through the mouth. The community service team also conducted a health check by measuring blood pressure, weight and height. Most of the participants who attended were teenagers aged 14-16 years. As for the results of the medical examinations that were obtained, most of them had blood pressure in the normal range.

The teenagers were very enthusiastic about this community service activity, especially in checking blood pressure, height and weight. The activity ended with the handing over of placards and souvenirs to the Principal of SMK Negeri 7 Makassar.
