On October 3, 1997, based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 396/DIKTI/Kep/1997, the Diploma IV Nursing Educator Study Program was established under the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University. The Diploma IV Nursing Educator Study Program became the forerunner of the Nursing Science Study Program (PSIK). At the time of its establishment, the Diploma IV Nursing Educator Program offered four specializations, namely: Basic Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Maternity Nursing, and Pediatric Nursing, with most students coming from nursing education institutions and healthcare services in Eastern Indonesia. The program was later expanded to six specializations with the addition of Psychiatric Nursing and Community Nursing. In 2001, the Diploma IV Nursing Educator Program was closed and transformed into the Nursing Science Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (PSIK FK-UNHAS).
The Nursing Science Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (PSIK FK-UNHAS), was established on May 18, 1999, and was the youngest study program within the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University, with its academic operations beginning in mid-2000. In 2017, specifically on September 8, the Nursing Science Study Program (PSIK) successfully changed its status from a study program into the Faculty of Nursing, as stipulated in the Rector of Hasanuddin University Decree No. 26150/UN4.1/KL.06/2017.
The Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, currently has five study programs: the Master of Nursing Science Program, the Bachelor of Nursing Program, the Professional Nurse Program (Ners), the Physiotherapy Program, and the Professional Physiotherapy Program. In carrying out its academic functions, the Faculty of Nursing is expected to strive to be equal and independent alongside other faculties within Hasanuddin University as a State University with Legal Entity Status (PTNBH).
