Reproductive Health Education for School Children

The Unhas 67th Anniversary Partnership Program Team carries out Elementary School Teacher Training in Pangkajene and Islands Regencies on Reproductive Health Education for School Children

The Unhas 67th Anniversary Partnership Program Team led by Nurmaulid, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep with members Indra Gaffar, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep, Tuti Seniwati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes and several students from the Faculty of Nursing carried out a community service program targeting elementary school teachers in Pangkajene Kepulauan Regency.

The activities carried out in collaboration with the Pangkep Regency Education and Culture Office were carried out through three stages of activity. For the first and second activities, the Focus Group Discussion on School Efforts to Prepare Students for Puberty and School Children’s Reproductive Health Education ToT, was held on August 1 2023, at RM Dewakang Pangkep. Meanwhile, the next series of activities is planned to be carried out before the peak of the Unhas Anniversary in Pangkep, which is scheduled to be held on August 23, 2023. For the third activity, the target is elementary school students in grades 3 and 4.

“This activity was carried out to respond to the current situation where it is still necessary to increase teachers’ knowledge about reproductive health as an effort to prepare students for puberty. As stated by the discussion participants, they still need this kind of activity to improve their competence, said the Head of the Partnership Program Team, Nurmaulid. Furthermore, he added that in this activity the three best participants were selected whose schools would receive follow-up activities in the form of direct education to their students by the Unhas Partnership Program Team.

The activity which involved 30 elementary school teachers from Pangkep Regency as the target, was also attended by the Head of the Pangkep Education Office. “The education carried out by the Unhas Partnership Program Team is in line with the program implemented by the Pangkep Regency Education and Culture Office. Regarding reproductive health, this education can help teachers provide material to students so that one of them can help reduce child marriage rates,” said the Head of the Pangkep Regency Education and Culture Office, Dr. Sabrun Jamil, S.Pi, MP, when closing the activity.
