International Guest Lecture on Community-Based Participatory Research

The Enhancement Healthy Aging (EAGING) Research Group of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, held an international guest lecture featuring speakers from the School of Nursing, University of Michigan, United States (Amy Buckenmeyer, Ph.D., MPH, RN, CPH, CPNP-PC). The event took place on Wednesday (18/06) via Zoom, moderated by Yery Mustari, S.Ft., Physio, MClinRehab., CMTP.
The lecture was attended by undergraduate and master’s nursing students. The topic presented was “Empowering Communities: Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.”
Andi Masyitha Irwan, RN, MAN, Ph.D., as the chair, stated that “this activity aims to increase knowledge and experience among nursing students, lecturers, and nurse researchers regarding community nursing research practices aimed at health promotion and disease prevention, also This activity serves as educational material for students, lecturers, and nurses to improve health outcomes through research findings from Nicaragua, which can be applied in rural areas of Indonesia,” he explained. In her presentation, Amy Buckenmeyer explained that this topic provides health education, working with the community must involve active participation from community members to address their health problems. Dr. Buckenmeyer believes this approach will benefit health care outcomes and support sustainable program development.
