F.Kep Unhas held an online guest lecture as an implementation of academic cooperation with Kanazawa University, Japan. This activity took place on (09/05) at 14.30 and was enthusiastically attended by lecturers and students from Kanazawa University.
This activity carried the theme “Advancing Wound Management: Bridging Research and Clinical Practice – Lessons from a Private Wound Care Clinic in Indonesia.” This event is part of the effort to achieve the Main Performance Indicators (IKU) of the Faculty of Nursing and a follow-up to the Letter of Intent (LoI) that has been signed by both institutions.
The guest lecture was opened by Prof. Makoto Oe, Ph.D., RN (Institute of Medical, Pharmaceutical and Health Sciences), from Kanazawa University, while the Faculty of Nursing of Hasanuddin University was represented by Ns. Saldy Yusuf, S.Kep., Ns., MHS., Ph.D.
In his presentation, Dr. Saldy Yusuf—who is also the Chair of the Indonesian Diabetic Foot Care Research Group (https://trg.unhas.ac.id/indofootcare/) presented a topic around the development of independent wound care practices in Indonesia, a service model that is not yet possible in Japan by regulation. He shared his empirical experience as a wound care practitioner involved in research, teaching, and community service based on evidence-based practice. Several research innovations that have been implemented were also presented in this session, including:
- Utilization of mobile phone vibrations for neuropathy status assessment,
- Use of infrared cameras for diabetic foot risk detection,
- And the potential for ChatGPT integration for chronic wound assessment.
The guest lecture session was interactive with active participation from Kanazawa University lecturers and students. The discussion covered opportunities for research collaboration, nursing technology innovation, and the development of research-based clinical practices between the two institutions. This collaboration is expected to continue to be strengthened as part of the commitment of the Faculty of Nursing, Unhas, in developing international networks and increasing the capacity of globally competitive nursing research and education.
