The F.Kep Unhas Physiotherapy Community Service Team successfully implemented the second phase of community service activities with the theme “PK-M Prolanis Community: The Role of Women’s Health Physiotherapy, Neuropsychiatry, and Cardiovascular in Comprehensive Handling of the Elderly through Education, Screening, and Interventional Gymnastics” on (02/07) at the Lisu Health Center, Kading Village, Tanete Riaja District, Barru Regency.
The second phase of this activity includes interventional gymnastics as well as education and counseling sessions. This program is a continuation of the Phase 1 community service activities that were implemented in the previous month. The main focus of this program is to improve the knowledge and skills of the elderly in maintaining body balance, managing blood pressure and sugar levels, and maximizing their functional abilities through safe physical exercises that are adjusted to the conditions of each individual.
The activity, which is an internal grant from Hasanuddin University, began with intervention gymnastics in the form of brain gym and brisk walking exercises led by the Community Service team, namely Andi Besse Ahsaniyah, S.Ft, Physio, M.Kes, Yusfina, S.Ft, Physio, M.Kes, and Dr. Andi Rizky Arbaim Hasyar, S.Ft, Physio with 6 Unhas physiotherapy students, then continued with educational counseling related to the role of physiotherapy in improving cognitive function, cardiovascular metabolism, and also pelvic floor muscle function in the elderly. The team received a positive response from the elderly who thought that this activity could be continued. The Head of the Lisu Health Center, Mansur, S.Kep.Ns, also expressed his appreciation for the implementation of this activity. “This activity is very useful, especially for the elderly who often experience decreased pelvic muscle strength, dementia, and vascular disease. We hope that the collaboration with Unhas Physiotherapy can continue, because physiotherapy services in our area are still very limited and are more available in hospitals,” he said.
The community service team also facilitated three intervention exercise videos and educational posters to the health center as a medium for further learning for the elderly, so that the material that has been delivered can continue to be practiced at home. This activity was officially closed by giving a plaque to the Head of the Lisu Health Center.
