The Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, held a Pre-Departure Training (PDT) to prepare students and lecturers for the Student Exchange program in Japan. The event aimed to equip participants with essential cultural, academic, and practical knowledge before their departure.
This training was provided for two students departing for Okayama University on December 13–19, 2025, and ten students scheduled to depart for Yokohama City University, Japan, on January 13–19, 2026. The training was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and faculty leaders, including the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Syahrul, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes., Ph.D., along with the program coordinator, and all participating students and lecturers.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Elly Lilianty Sjattar, S.Kp., M.Kes., congratulated the selected participants, emphasizing that “not all students have this opportunity—only high-achieving students are selected, to motivate others to excel.” She urged them to “make the most of this opportunity to study well, to contribute to the future of nursing, and to share knowledge upon their return about the current state of nursing in Japan.” She also highlighted the cultural dimension, stating that “Japanese society highly values Indonesian culture. Take advantage of this opportunity to introduce and share the rich culture of South Sulawesi.”
Emphasizing and expanding on this, Vice Dean Dr. Syahrul stated that “this training is designed to enhance the academic atmosphere of our faculty and to ensure our students proudly represent UNHAS abroad. The goal is to minimize the adjustment gap they will face upon arrival in Japan.” He also underscored the importance of this event, stating that “this is the first Pre-Departure Training organized by UNHAS, formalizing our commitment to comprehensive student preparation for global mobility.”
Following the opening session, the training continued with several key topics, including the role of students and lecturers as UNHAS ambassadors, cross-cultural understanding, strategies for overcoming culture shock, faculty internationalization efforts, and advances in nursing practice. Presentations were delivered by experienced internationalization academics and practitioners.
This PDT training marks a significant step in strengthening the ongoing partnership between the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Nursing and its Japanese partners, ensuring that participants are prepared to begin their academic journey and contribute to future collaborative initiatives in nursing education and practice.
