Makassar, 6-7 February 2025 – The Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, made history by holding the first comprehensive exam for the first batch of students of the Medical-Surgical Nursing Specialist Study Program.

This exam is an important step in nursing specialist education, aiming to measure students’ clinical and academic abilities in integrating theory with evidence-based practice (EBP). As the first exam for the first batch, this event is an initial milestone in establishing evaluation standards for medical-surgical nursing specialist graduates in Indonesia.

This comprehensive exam is held in accordance with the regulations of the College of Nursing, ensuring that the evaluation standards and competencies measured are in line with national policies in nursing specialist education.

Seven students from the first batch took the exam, namely:

  1. Olivia Estrella Yana
  2. Fitria
  3. Eli Zuraida
  4. Iwan
  5. Khoirul Anam
  6. Rahaemil Jannah Aris
  7. Aswedi Winardi

Each participant was tested by a team of examiners consisting of a supervisor, collegiate examiners, and practitioner examiners. The evaluation focused on the students’ ability to analyze clinical cases, develop evidence-based interventions, and present their findings systematically and critically.

In the exam presentation, students presented 10 clinical cases that they had managed during their practice, covering areas of excellence in medical surgical nursing, such as neurology, cardiovascular, integumentary, and urology/nephrology.

The team of examiners involved in this exam included:

Collegium Examiner: Dr. Sriyono, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.MB (Lecturer in Nursing, Brawijaya University, Malang); Prof. Dr. Christantie Effendy, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes (Lecturer in Nursing) FKKMK UGM Yogyakarta, Fransiska Anita, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.MB (Lecturer in STIK Stella Maris Makassar), and Dr. Yunie Armiyati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.MB (Lecturer in FIKES Muhammadiyah Semarang).
  3. Practitioner Examiner: Dr. Akhyar Albaar, Sp.PD-KGH, FINASIM (Doctor Practitioner RSP Unhas), Ikram Bauk, M.Kep., WOC(ET)N (Director of IWCC Majene and Wound Clinic Practitioner), Suhatman, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep (Nurse Practitioner Brain Center RSWS), Syahrani Said, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep., Sp.KV (Nurse Practitioner PJT RSWS).

Head of the Medical Surgical Nursing Specialist Study Program, Dr. Andina Setyawati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kep, emphasized that this exam is the final stage of academic evaluation that students must go through before completing their specialist program.

“As the first comprehensive exam for the first batch, this is a historic moment in the journey of the Medical Surgical Nursing Specialist Study Program at Hasanuddin University. This exam is also held in accordance with the regulations of the College of Nursing to ensure that the competencies of graduates meet national standards and are ready to contribute to the field of specialist nursing. We hope that the first graduates of this program will become pioneers in evidence-based nursing practice and bring innovation to patient care in Indonesia,” said Dr. Andina Setyawati.

During the exam, students received direct feedback from the examiners, which included an analysis of strengths and areas that need improvement in clinical case management. Interactive discussions also encouraged students to sharpen their understanding of evidence-based nursing practice in their respective fields of specialization.

As the first batch, students who have passed this exam will be the first graduates of the Medical Surgical Nursing Specialist Study Program at Hasanuddin University, as well as pioneers in the development of specialist nursing practice in Indonesia.
