The Community Service Team from the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, provided education to Gowa youth through Youth Information and Counseling Services (PIK-R) with the theme “Prevention and Early Detection of Fibroadenoma Mammae (FAM)” on Thursday (September 18th) at SMA Negeri 2, Gowa Regency.
The event was attended by the Principal of SMA Negeri 2 Gowa (Dr. Imran Mappiare, M.Pd.), the Head of the Community Service Team (Dr. Tuti Seniwati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes), four F.Kep lecturers and students, and 94 female students.
The opening remarks were given by the Principal of SMA Negeri 2 Gowa (Dr. Imran Mappiare, M.Pd.), who expressed his appreciation for the initiative as a demonstration of the educational sector’s commitment to adolescent health. “We hope this activity will provide valuable lessons for the female students to be more aware of their own health, particularly in conducting breast self-examinations,” he said.
The Head of the Community Service Team (Dr. Tuti Seniwati, S.Kep., Ns., M.Kes) emphasized in her remarks that the activity targets young women who are members of the PIK-R (National Infectious Diseases Center). She explained that fibroadenoma, known as a benign breast tumor, often appears in adolescence and young adulthood, making early detection a crucial step in preventing further health risks.
The students received educational materials on basic understanding of fibroadenoma, breast self-examination (BSE), and the role of peers in education and counseling related to adolescent reproductive health.
Through this activity, the Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University hopes to increase young women’s awareness of the importance of maintaining reproductive health, while strengthening the role of PIK-R as a health information and counseling center in schools.
