Makassar, December 19, 2024 – The Faculty of Nursing of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) held a community service activity in Parang Village, Tamalanrea Jaya Village, Tamalanrea District, Makassar City, Thursday (12/19/2024). The activity led by team leader Arnis Puspitha was attended by the RT Head, local health cadres, and the Parang Village community, especially housewives.

This activity combines education and health checks with education on household waste management. Participants received health checks including measuring body weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol. The goal is for early detection of disease and health promotion. In addition, Physiotherapist Arbaim guided a stretching relaxation session to reduce stress. Unhas students also participated as facilitators.

Realizing the crucial role of housewives in waste management at home, the activity also included education on household waste management. The material presented included organic waste processing (for example, compost), waste sorting, and the impact of waste management on health and the environment. The goal is to empower housewives in creating a healthy and sustainable home environment.

“We believe that individual health and the environment are interrelated,” said Arnis Puspitha. “By combining health education and waste management, we hope to provide a broader positive impact for the people of Kampung Parang.”

The active participation of local health cadres shows a commitment to the sustainability of this program. The enthusiasm of housewives in participating in all series of activities shows the success of this program in increasing public awareness of the importance of health and good environmental management.
