The Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University once again demonstrated its commitment to building an international academic network. On July 25, 2025, one of the Faculty of Nursing lecturers, Dr. Saldy Yusuf, was invited as a panelist for the Evaluation of Proposal Defense for the Doctor of Philosophy (DOP), organized online by the Department of Nursing Science, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya (UM).
This activity is part of the academic process for doctoral students at University Malaya (UM), where candidates are required to present their dissertation proposals before a cross-institutional panel of reviewers. On this occasion, Dr. Saldy Yusuf represented Hasanuddin University as an external panelist, along with two other panelists: Dr. Thalwaththe Gedara Nadeeka Shayamalie Gunaratne from Universiti Malaya (UM), as the panel chair, and Dr. Thandar Soe Sumaiyah Jamaludin from the International Islamic University Malaysia. The three provided a scientific evaluation of the dissertation proposal of doctoral candidate Weng Huiting, who is currently studying in Medical Science.
The involvement of lecturers from the Faculty of Nursing at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in the doctoral student examination at Universiti Malaya (UM) is a concrete manifestation of the academic collaboration between the two institutions. This participation also provides a forum for sharing experiences and perspectives among academics in a scientific forum setting, particularly regarding the doctoral student evaluation process. At the forum, Weng Huiting presented her dissertation plan, entitled “The Effect of Moxibustion Therapy on Sleep Quality, Diabetes Distress, and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Painful Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy,” under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Chong Mei Chan and Dr. Lee Wan Ling.
In her response, Prof. Dr. Chong Mei Chan expressed her appreciation for the Unhas lecturers’ contributions to the evaluation process. He stated,
“We greatly appreciate the thoughtful comments and recommendations from the esteemed lecturers from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), which will undoubtedly strengthen the rigor and impact of this study. We sincerely hope that this collaboration between UM and UNHAS will continue, grow and develop, and foster further academic and research partnerships in the future.”
Dr. Suni Hariati has also previously been involved in the doctoral examinations of Universiti Malaya (UM). The participation of Unhas lecturers in cross-border academic forums such as this is an important part of strengthening the quality of postgraduate education and developing mutually enriching collaborative networks between institutions.
