The Physiotherapy Study Program of the Faculty of Nursing, Hasanuddin University, successfully implemented the first phase of community service activities entitled “PK-M Prolanis Community: The Role of Women’s Health Physiotherapy, Neuropsychiatry, and Cardiovascular in Comprehensive Handling of the Elderly through Education, Screening, and Interventional Gymnastics” on Monday, (2/6) at the Lisu Health Center, Kading Village, Tanete Riaja District, Barru Regency.
This activity is part of the first phase of the community service program, which is funded through an internal grant from Hasanuddin University. The main objective of this program is to improve the understanding and skills of the elderly in maintaining the balance of body functions, controlling blood pressure and sugar levels, and optimizing functional capacity through safe and appropriate exercise programs for their conditions.
It began with remarks from the Head of the Physiotherapy Study Program and head of the implementation team, Andi Besse Ahsaniyah, S.Ft, Physio, M.Kes, who emphasized the importance of education and screening related to pelvic muscle health, prevention of dementia and body balance, and cardiovascular disorders in the elderly in order to maintain their quality of life.
In its implementation, the activity includes various important sessions, such as education on pelvic muscle health, the nervous system, and blood vessels. In addition, screening was also carried out on three main aspects, namely Pelvic muscle health using the ICIQ questionnaire, Cognitive and neuropsychiatric using the MoCA-Ina instrument, and Cardiovascular health through blood pressure measurement.
The activity was officially opened by the Head of the Lisu Health Center, Mansur, S.Kep.Ns, expressing his appreciation for the implementation of this activity. “This activity is very useful, especially for the elderly who often experience decreased pelvic muscle strength, dementia, and vascular disease. We hope that the collaboration with Unhas Physiotherapy can continue, because physiotherapy services in our area are still very limited and are more available in hospitals,” he said.
In addition to receiving education and screening, the elderly were also motivated to live an active and healthy lifestyle. This activity is expected to be the first step in improving the quality of life of the elderly in the Barru area and can be an inspiration for the implementation of similar programs in the future.
