Tamalanrea, December 19, 2024 – Parang Village in Tamalanrea Jaya Village, Tamalanrea District, hosted an activity entitled LESTARI (Preserving Ecosystems with Processed, Friendly, and Inclusive Waste). This event was held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the house of the Head of RT 002 Parang Village.
This activity was attended by the Head of RT 002, the surrounding community, especially housewives, and students from the Appropriate Technology Implementation Team (ITTG). The presence of these students is part of their efforts to provide creative solutions and education in community-based waste management.
One of the main agendas in this event is education about making ecobricks, a method of processing plastic waste into environmentally friendly construction materials. This process involves filling plastic bottles with non-organic waste that has been compacted, so that it can be used as a strong and durable alternative building material.
In his remarks, the Head of RT 002 Parang Village expressed his appreciation for this initiative. “We are very grateful for the presence of students and the community who enthusiastically participated in this activity. Hopefully, this education about ecobricks can be the first step towards a cleaner and more environmentally friendly Parang Village,” he said.
The participants seemed enthusiastic about participating in the activity, starting from the theoretical explanation session to direct practice in making ecobricks. This LESTARI activity is expected to not only be an educational event, but also to motivate the Parang Village community to continue implementing sustainable waste management practices. The ITTG Team students expressed their hope that the use of ecobricks could be expanded in the Parang Village environment and its surroundings, so that it can have a positive impact on the ecosystem as a whole.
