The F.Kep Lecturer and Student Delegation once again achieved an achievement when participating in the Indonesia and Japan international student exchange program, namely the Sakura Science Program 2025 at the Department of Nursing, Yokohama City University (YCU). This activity took place from January 13 to January 19, 2025. This activity was also the second time it was held offline after previously being held online due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. This activity was opened by the Dean of the School of Medicine, YCU, Prof. Tomoko Akase and attended by lecturers from the Department of Nursing, YCU.

The theme of this year’s activity focused on handling mental health in disaster areas between Japan and Indonesia. The first day’s lecture was attended by Unhas students and YCU students. YCU presented experts in the health field who specialize in handling mental health problems in victims in disaster-stricken areas. One of the speakers was the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Ariyanti Saleh, S.Kp., M.Si who shared her experience online while on duty handling mental health in disaster victims in several areas in Indonesia. Next, the delegates attended other lectures delivered by YCU lecturers related to the topic. Unhas and YCU students also worked in groups and presented the results of their discussions according to the topic of this activity.

This activity was closed with a farewell event where YCU students held a quiz and taught the art of origami to the Unhas delegation and Unhas students performed the Mappadendang dance which is one of the traditional dances in South Sulawesi. Unhas students also had the opportunity to visit health facilities owned by YCU and disaster preparedness training facilities owned by Japan where students conducted simulations related to responses to various emergency situations and disasters. The last day was closed with a tour to Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan. All of these activities were accompanied by YCU lecturers and several YCU volunteer students.

This certainly has a positive impact on both universities. This program is a collaborative event where information exchange occurs well so that Unhas and YCU can learn from each other which will be good provisions for career development, research planning and increasing knowledge for both students and lecturers.
