The Physiotherapy Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University, held a Community Service activity entitled “Healthy Posture, Great Movement, Creating a Golden Generation” involving several lecturers, undergraduate students, and professionals on Monday (September 15th) at SMA Negeri 21 Makassar.
Also in attendance were the Head of the Physiotherapy Professional Study Program (Irianto, S.Ft., Physio., M.Kes), the Team Leader (Rijal, S.Ft., Physio., M.Kes., M.Sc., Ph.D.), and a representative from SMAN 21 (Dr. Iskandar, S.Pd., M.M.) who officially opened the event, as well as the participating students.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Iskandar, S.Pd., M.M., representing SMA Negeri 21 Makassar. In his remarks, he expressed his appreciation for the Unhas Physiotherapy Professional Study Program, which has once again partnered with SMA Negeri 21. “This is the second time SMA 21 has partnered. Previously, we conducted research on plyometric exercises, which have been proven to increase students’ height. This time, we’ve developed it into a community service program, as it has had a positive impact on our students. We hope this collaboration will continue, both in research and community service in the future,” he said.
Following the remarks, the Head of the Physiotherapy Professional Study Program, Irianto, S.Ft., Physio, M.Kes., also provided an introduction to the Hasanuddin University physiotherapy program. He also mentioned that 1,183 people applied for the physiotherapy program in 2025, with only 92 successfully reaching the final stage and being officially accepted. Physiotherapy is a health field that focuses on addressing movement and body function issues, ranging from postural disorders and muscle weakness to injury management and fitness maintenance. “Because of its broad role, physiotherapy is highly needed by the community,” he said.
The head of the community service team, Rijal, S.Ft., Physio, M.Kes., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated in his report that this activity aimed to help students understand the importance of physical activity and posture, as well as gain information related to physical fitness to improve health and physical development. “By regularly engaging in plyometric exercises, students can shift from a sedentary lifestyle to a more active, healthy, and independent lifestyle, while simultaneously achieving optimal height growth,” he said.

The series of activities consisted of education on proper posture and simple exercises to maintain healthy posture. Posture and physical fitness screenings included measurements of height, weight, and body mass index (BMI), and examinations for scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis, rounded shoulders, and a forward neck. Meanwhile, physical fitness screenings were conducted by measuring students’ balance, strength, and flexibility.
The activity concluded with plyometric exercises to improve strength, flexibility, balance, and physical fitness. The enthusiasm of the participants was evident in the eagerness with which they participated in each activity. Through this program, it is hoped that a younger generation will emerge who are more aware of the importance of maintaining body posture, exercising regularly, and ready to become a healthy and productive golden generation.
